Paarde breedte.
Wij hebben het afgelopen weekeinde de breedtes doorvaren die bekend staan als de paarde(n)breedtes 'horse latitudes'. Tussen 40 graden en 30 graden zuid. De almanac zegt hierover; De horse lattitudes staan bekend om hun rustige weer types met wolkenloze hemel, weinig wind en neerslag. Welke jandoedel heeft dat boek geschreven. Het was stampen en rollen en windkracht 6 uit het noordoosten, tegen dus. En regenen, niet te krap. Vandaag was het dan eindelijk mooi weer, en dan wordt het heet. Ruim boven de dertig graden met een relatieve luchtvochtigheid van 135 %. Het zweet gutst je door de bilnaad. Maar goed. Dan nu de kennismaking met onze, kogelronde, Chief Engineer. Misschien klein van lengte maar groots aan de eettafel.
Q- What is your name?
A- Francisco Ricardo Canio Reyes. But they call me Pancho.
Q- When and where were you born.
A- I was born the 22-05-1973, in Punta Arenas, Chili.
Q- Tell me, shortly, about your life?
A- I went to school in Punta Arenas, I did the fine mechanics education, I also went to the conservatorium. I studied the French horn and the classic guitar. But, because of lack of financial means, I had to stop. Then I started to be a sailor.
Q- And you have been sailing ever since?
A-Yes.
Q- Are you married? Children?
A- Yes married and 1 children, as far as I know.
Q- Boy or Girl.
A- Boy, 7 years old. His name is Rene Andres. We have about 6 Rene's in the family now.
Q- What do you think about the food here on board?
A- The food is OK. It's different then we used to have in Chili.
But it's a lot more healthy..
Q- But you will survive?
A- Off course
Q- Do you have a credo? A life motto.
A- I belief in God, but I like a good challenges.
Q- Anything else you want to share with our readers?
A- How much does that pay?
Q- You get extra French fries next time.
A- And another T-Bone? Ok, it's a nice trip.
